The cross-docking service is used by many commercial companies primarily for two main reasons:
The first reason is to better manage the flow and time in the handling and distribution of their products. In a cross-docking distribution center, goods are unloaded, on-site sorting is performed, and they are immediately loaded onto trucks for distribution. Therefore, the process of storing products is avoided. Cross docking means a smoother and faster flow of goods from suppliers to customers.
The second reason cross docking is massively used is the reduction of committed capital, since a significant part of the total cost of logistics is saved, that of storage, as it creates little or even zero inventory.
